Our 2019 Conductors

Bishop Orchestra - David Kram  

David Kram is a conductor who has worked in Australia, Germany, Italy, France, Malaysia, Switzerland, Bulgaria, The Czech Republic and China.  He has conducted more than 30 orchestras, collaborating with many distinguished peers.  

David studied in London then Rome. He made his international conducting debut at the Spoleto Fetival in Italy, continuing full-time engagements at the Grand Theatre de Geneve, Stadttheater Basel and as Erster Kapellmeister in Mannheim.  In 1978 David came to Australia, becoming resident conductor at the Australian Opera then Music Director for the State Opera of South Australia.  Since the 1990s David has had frequent guest conducting engagements in Berlin, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Karlsruhe, Nantes and Weisbaden, his most recent being a CD recording with members of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra.

David has also held academic positions as a senior lecturer at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) from 1996-2009.  He continues his association with the University of Melbourne as a senior fellow.

David has conducted many youth and conservatorium orchestras, including the East-West Youth Symphony Orchestra (Germany and Salzburg) as inaugural Music Director in 1992. In Australia, David has conducted youth orchestras in most states.

Jones String Ensemble - Ingrid Martin

Ingrid Martin's work as a conductor, clinician and curator is united by her vision to transform lives through the emotive power of music. 

In demand internationally as a clinician, guest conductor and lecturer, she is renowned for her ability to lead ensembles to deeper, more meaningful musical performances.  Ingrid creates inspiring experiences for audiences and empowers musicians to find their uniques artistic voice.

Ingrid trained under the late John Hopkins AM OBE (a former patron of State Music Camp) and initially studied Medicine at Monash University then worked as an emergency physician while maintaining a busy musical life as a Conductor, Horn Player and Violinist.  A decision to further her conducting training meant relocating to the University of Minnesota where she completed a postgraduate degree with mentor, Craig Kirchhoff.

As Artistic Director of the Victorian Youth Symphony Orchestra and Crosswinds Ensemble, she leads innovative performances that fuse music with other art forms in unexpected venues - from an orchestra playing Ravel in a pub, to chamber winds performing Kurt Weill amongst renegade paintings at the Heide Museum of Modern Art.

Scott String Ensemble - Adam Merange

A well-known musician and educator who is currently Head of Lower Strings at Scotch College teaching performance, orchestral studies and Chamber music. 

He completed his Bachelor degree with Nelson Cooke of Melbourne University then further studies in France where he studied with Michael Strauss.  He then completed his Graduate Diploma of Education at Monash University. He also attended conducting courses hosted by Symphony Australia.

Adam has furthered his development as a  performer and educator, attending the Piatiagorgsky Cello Festival at USC in California and the ASTA national Conference in Tampa Bay, Florida.

As a performer Adam has performed and recorded with Michael Buble, Kylie Minogue, Tina Arena, Delta Goodrem, John Farnham and in numerous stage musicals.  He can also credit his repertoire with film music scores, television, opera and ballet.

At Scotch College he conducts the Intermediate Orchestra and coaches the Symphony Orchestra, Year 3 String Orchestra, year 5 & 6 String Orchestra and a number of Chamber Music groups.

Thompson String Ensemble - Aaron Yeoh 

Aaron Yeoh is a passionate music educator and conductor.  He completed a Master of Music at the University of Tasmania as  recipient of the Vice-Chancellor's String Scholarship.

His love for music education spurred him to puruse a Diploma of Education through Monash University and then further intensive musical studies in Hungary at the Kodaly Institue and the Franz Listz Academy.

With over a decade of varied teaching experience, Aaron has taught in government and independent schools across Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania, as well as in London, United Kingdom. He is regularly invited to tutor for Melbourne Youth Orchestras and State Music Camp Victoria.  Aaron is an active chamber musician and performs regularly with Azure Piano Trip.

He is currently the Head of Strings at Wesley College, Glen Waverley campus. Aaron is a past camper and is very excited to be conducting at this year's Camp.
