A non-residential camp for young orchestral musicians
This much admired and respected camp is in its 56th year.
For a week each year, State Music Camp hosts a camp that provides instrumental students the opportunity to play in one of four different ensembles.
Bishop Orchestra is the senior orchestra that performs a full Symphonic work. This orchestra is comprised of string, woodwind, brass and percussion students with about 70 players from approximately AMEB Grade 7+
Alexander Orchestra is the junior orchestra to Bishop and is comprised of string, woodwind, brass and percussion students with about 60 students from approximately AMEB Grade 5+
Scott string ensemble is suitable for string players from approximately AMEB Grade 4+ and accommodates up to 30 students.
Thomson string ensemble is suitable for string players ranging from AMEB Preliminary to Grade 2 and accommodates up to 30 students.
The young musicians attending this camp work with some of Australia’s finest conductors and tutors to explore and develop their talents whilst learning the art of orchestral music making.
At the conclusion of the camp, after five days of music making with friends, students enjoy the exhilaration and satisfaction of an orchestral concert at the Saturday evening Gala Concert.
2017 will be our 56th year
We estimate around 8,400 young musicians have enjoyed the State Music Camp experience since 1962. This year's camp will be another special event when we welcome new and past players.
Please invite your friends to join you this year.
Enrol early to avoid disappointment.
